CoFounder Weekly is a slightly silly newsletter about startup culture. This is not your average newsletter (could be better or worse).

Hot 🔥 (and Not❄️): Buzzfeed
The last few weeks saw layoffs at media companies like Refinery 29, Mic, and Buzzfeed.
Observers attribute this wave of layoffs to digital media companies taking on too much venture capital, which requires unachievable growth benchmarks.
So what’s an unemployed journo to do?
Interestingly, a web developer put together Buzzfeed Exodus, a microsite where you can browse the journalists and get in touch. Developer Jerry Chen aggregated Buzzfeed reporters who tweeted about their layoff (of which there were many) and listed them onto one central database. Neat idea.
Ironically, writer Jason Sweeten created a quiz on Buzzfeed that determines if you still have a job at Buzzfeed.
Hot 🔥: Peloton spoof
Previously barely known (but a now a bit more known) Twitter personality Clue Heywood lit up the internet spoofing Peleton’s recent ad campaign.
He tapped into the collective distaste for the at-home cycling startup’s luxury marketing tactics — depicting a nearly unattainable lifestyle for the 99.99%.
After the tweets when viral:

Kidding. Sort of.

Hot 🔥: Twitter is the new LinkedIn
…or so some people say.
LinkedIn’s spam problem has gotten worse than ever. Appreciate the kind offer to connect and “grow my business by 30,000%” but no thanks.
Meanwhile in Twitterworld, real connections are made, jobs opportunities are being shared, and it’s a key distribution channel for company and personal news.
Twitter is becoming the go-to platform to share ideas and hot takes. If you consistently share ideas about niches you are interested in and participate in relevant conversations, you’ll get to know likeminded people over time. This trend does seem to over-index in certain industries like tech, politics, and finance.
Calling all investors.

Weekly Thought

Vacations destroy habits.
The new gym routine that took you six months to develop? Destroyed after a vacation.
Waking up at 7am? Destroyed.
I love vacations — they’re restorative and absolutely necessary — but they wreak havoc on the momentum of habits.
How do you avoid losing momentum and falling out of habits?
