Articles / Links:
Bird, the electric rental scooter company, just announced their plan to allow local entrepreneurs to manage fleets of scooters. It’s effectively a franchise model, where entrepreneurs can build businesses on their platform.
We also saw this recently with Wonderschool, which allows local educators to start in-home preschools. In exchange for a 10% cut of tuition, Wonderschool provides resources such as assistance building their website, figure out pricing, finding leads, and keeping track the business.
If executed correctly, the setup can be a win-win-win situation. The startups win by growing marketshare while saving on sales & marketing costs, local entrepreneurs win from the opportunity to build a business in a growing market without having to start from scratch, while customers win by getting more access to more affordable services. It’s a great business model.

“How This All Happened” is a short story about what happened to the U.S. economy since the end of World War II. Consumer spending on household goods went nuts in the after World War II, which was fine because wages we’re rising too, but then not fine when wages stopped rising in the 1980’s through today, and Americans got hooked on a lifestyle they can no longer afford.
Weekend Thought:
Investor Erik Torenberg asked his twitter followers “What fields/sectors/skill sets look dumb right now, but in a few years may look mainstream or much bigger than they are currently?" Some of the answers feel bizarre, others feel inevitable. Here are some of the juicier predictions:
Equity investing in people
Embryo selection
Alternatives to traditional college (like Lambda School)
Psychedelics for treating conditions like addiction, PTSD, depression, etc.
Synthetic meat (like Memphis Meats)
Here’s our question to you: Which of the above would have the biggest influence on our world?
Pssst…CoFounder has an Instagram page. If the newsletter is the party, our Instagram is the afterparty. Check it out here!
