It’s 2020 and everything is….the same.
Well, except there’s now a bunch of predictions floating around the internet if you’re into that sort of thing.
I mostly avoided them with the exception of reading Fred Wilson’s because Fred is Fred.
Climate change, automation, mass surveillance, space exploration, decentralized internet, and a rising China. I think we can agree all these things are happening soon, which is interesting coming from a VC whose job is to take moonshot bets. Where da moonshots!? The one prediction I disagree with is his boldness on plant-based diets:
“Plant based diets will dominate the world by the end of the decade. Eating meat will become a delicacy, much like eating caviar is today.”
I actually hope this will become true. I love Beyond Meat more than the next flexitarian. But having travelled the world this year, the world eats a lot of meat!!! It’s core to so many cultures — al pastor tacos in Mexico, Iberico ham in Spain, currywurst in Germany, suckling roasted pig in Bali. Maybe the transition to meat-as-a-delicacy will take place in coastal US cities by the end of the decade, but not all over the world any time soon.
I don’t really follow real estate but this thread was sort of interesting?
Do you have any bold predictions? Something that the CFW readers needs to hear? Because if we don’t act on it, we’re screwed? Let us know. Please?
