CoFounder Weekly is a Twitter-powered slightly silly newsletter about startup culture.
This week’s edition was produced in Tulum while at Greg (and Dana’s) bachelor(ette) party. In lieu of wedding gifts, please share our newsletter on LinkedIn (or Twitter or Facebook or email it to a friend). Thanks!

🤔 Thought Starters
(Six Tweets this week that made us think )
"Most people want to be accepted, so they won't take risks that could make them look crazy."
Be crazy.
Your happiness is a choice. Relying on external events to drive your happiness will never work. You can choose to be happy every day.

❄️ Not: Founder 30
1/ I’ve lost a lot of weight over the past couple of years and been asked a lot about the story. Here goes, tl;dr - starting a company was bad for my health and took me a while to get it back.
2/ During the first two years of starting @triple_byte. I neglected my health. Gained 32lbs and went from a BMI of 27 (overweight) to 32 (obese). It took me another 2 years to find a way to get it back. This is a graph of my weight over the first 2 years.
3/ It was easy to identify the behaviors. I wasn’t exercising, eating more (100% takeout/delivery) and drinking more. Changing the behaviors wasn’t easy. I tried shouting at myself (eat less! exercise more!) and various diets (eat anything, just no carbs). Nothing worked.

Today is Day 1 of my “Fit by 40” campaign. The toll of startup and new dad life has caused a fitness decline.
I am kickstarting with Whole 30 and zero alcohol as well as a return to regular workouts.
By June 1, 2019, I plan to be a healthy dad for the rest of my life.
@Harjeet Same journey, same challenges. (traveling + fancy dinners also terrible for health)
2yrs of fasting & exercise & now running have me in best shape of my life.

👩💻 FOUNDER & 🤑 INVESTOR STUFF
(Interesting bites for startup nerds)
Passion or Just a job?
If you want to start a company because it sounds like a nifty way to make money, you are wasting your time. Start a company because you have this idea that is just eating you alive inside and you have to get it out into the world for the pure satisfaction of making it happen.
The response:
I have a confession: The idea for Basecamp wasn’t eating me alive inside. It was just something we needed, that we knew how to build, and then other people asked if they could use it too 🤷♂️K
Jeff Atwood @codinghorror
In fact, I’d argue that “intensity porn” is closely related to “struggle porn” and “hustle mania”. When something is “eating you alive”, you’re justified to sacrifice all and everything in pursuit of Le Glory. I think most businesses are much more mundane than that. Thankfully!

Unadvertised responsibilities of execs in startups:
🎢 Manage ⬆️⬇️ of rollercoaster
🤐 Be an intermediary in founder talks
🤹🏽♂️ Anticipate, predict founders’ demands
💸 Be "board or investor ready"
🗣 Enforce & communicate culture
💡Be founders/CEO’s therapist, outlet etc
The best entrepreneurs I know have one thing in common: As soon as they think of a great idea, they take one step toward making it a reality.
Coming up with a name.
Designing a logo.
Sketching it out.
Something.
So many great ideas are lost to analysis paralysis.
😸 FUNNIES
(LOLs from this week)
Some people question whether destiny is real or not. All I know is that the new President of Nintendo North America’s last name is “Bowser.”
funny how I was taught that women have nothing to look forward to after 30 and I’m over here at 33 having a motherfucking renaissance
20s recommendation: drug dealer and secret bar.
40s recommendation: “lower back guy” and physical therapist.
